Based on feedback from the staff and community meetings and the profile assessment forms they received, the superintendent search firm will present a profile of desirable characteristics of the next superintendent that will be used to publicize the job opening and recruit candidates.

The profile will be shared with the school board at a public meeting on Tuesday, November 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the school board meeting room, 12111 NE First Street, Bellevue, WA 98005.

The presentation will be videotaped and streamed from the BSD405.org website on Wed. November 26.

As a member of the school board and as a parent in this district, I am very encouraged by the superintendent-search process so far. The board interviewed several search firms for this job, and were impressed by the professionalism and apparent capabilities of each. In the end, we unanimously agreed to hire HYA (Hazard, Young, Attea), and I would encourage anyone who can find the time, to take the opportunity to meet the members of this team. They are spending a lot of time listening to all the stakeholder voices before they create the leadership profile which they will present to us on Nov. 25. That profile ultimately is the ‘job description’ they will be using as they work to find our next superintendent. They have also created online input mechanisms which can be located via the district website. This is a unique opportunity for our school community, and I hope you will all let your voices be heard.

Public meeting added Nov. 13 at 7pm

One more public meeting to give feedback to the search consultant firm has been scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. at the school district's Transportation Training Center. The address for the Transportation Training Center is 12025 NE Fifth Street, Bellevue, 98005.

Directions: From 120th NE (same street as Home Depot), turn onto NE 5th St. and head up the hill. Take the first right and enter the lower parking lot. TTC is at the far end of this lower parking lot.

During the meeting the consultant will ask for strengths of the district, challenges the district will face in the future, desirable characteristics of our next superintendent, and suggestions for someone you'd like to see the search firm recruit.

For those of you who cannot attend this feedback session, but who want to share your thoughts and opinions with the superintendent search consultants, feedback forms are now posted on our website as a PDF form and Microsoft Word file. You can also use the links below to access the form in the format you prefer.

After completing the form you can return it to the consultants via email, fax or snail mail. It is due on Tuesday, November 18.

Starting in the fall of 2008 Bellevue School District is conducting a nation-wide search for a new superintendent. The search firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates has been retained to help us in this search process.

This blog site was created at the request of the BSD School Board to provide another avenue of input from the public in helping select the next superintendent for Bellevue Schools.

Two public meetings with consultants from the search firm are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 30. The first will run from 10 to 11:30 A.M. in the BSD board room, 12111 NE First Street, 98005. The second will take place that evening, from 7 to 8:30 PM in the Sammamish High School Performing Arts Center, 100 140th SE, 98005.
